"Since its inception in 1934, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) has provided vital public services contributing to the health and well-being of individuals and communities through its nationally administered programs. After being consolidated into the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Office of Housing in 1965, the FHA continued its core mission of contributing to the building and maintenance of healthy, prosperous neighborhoods and expanding opportunities for affordable home ownership, rental housing and healthcare."

"It means something different to someone who uses a wheelchair than to someone who uses crutches, to someone who is blind than to someone with low vision, to someone diagnosed as fearful of the outside world than to someone severely depressed.
For some people the most important issues relate to general environment instead of physical characteristics such as the width of a doorway.
Of course, some things are important to people with disabilities and, also, to non-disabled people: location of public transit or a safe neighborhood."
Accessability and quality of life in a home environment are essential to disabled residents. Be an informed resident and surf this page for information on disability housing, support and your rights.

As stated by NCAL: "Assisted living is a long term care alternative for seniors who need more assistance than is available in a retirement community, but who do not require the heavy medical and nursing care provided in a nursing facility. While many seniors relocate to an assisted living residence after a period of rahabilitation in a nursing home or hospital, nearly half come directly from their homes.
Assisted living residences are designed to be operated, staffed, and maintained to best meet the needs and desires of their residents. Security and independence, privacy and companionship, and physical and social well-being are the primary characteristics of an assisted living setting; this accounts for its popularity among seniors and their families. Individuals receive, as needed, supervision, personal care assistance, and health care services that emphasize their right to control their lives.
Extended life expectancy and the graying of America are at the heart of the unprecedented demand for a variety of long term health care services. In 2000, about one in eight Americans was aged 65 or older; by 2030, it is estimated that approximately one in five will be aged 65 or older."

"Adult foster care has been defined as offering a community-based living arrangement to adults who are unable to live independently because of physical or mental impairments or disabilities and are in need of supervision or personal care.
Adult foster care homes offer 24-hour supervision, protection, and personal care in addition to room and board; they are differentiated from other residential care settings by both the size of the homes and the family nature of the care setting."
