Samuel J. Knecht
|
As chairman of the art department at Hilldale College, Sam Knecht has taught numerous courses in both art studio and art history. He has also taught courses in Florence, Italy where he strengthened his knowledge of the egg tempera medium used in his most challenging concepts. Too versitile to restrict himself to one kind of subject or one kind of medium, Sam has become equally adept in painting landscape, portraiture and still life using egg tempera, watercolor, oils or pastels. His work has received national exposure in various magazines, including American Artist, as well as more local publications as the Ann Arbor Observer.
Educated at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, Sam has exhibited in over a dozen solo shows across the United States. He has also reaped numerous honors and awards including the Arts Foundation of Michigan Award, signifying "Best of Show," for the Michigan Watercolor Society exhibit that toured the state in 1992-93.
