Building Inspection

Building Permits for the City of Hillsdale are required for all significant structural building projects.You may download an Application Form below.

Alan Ringenberg is our Building Inspector and Joyce McCallister the executive assistant. They are available at 517-437-6455

Permits for Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical & Soil Erosion are administered by the Hillsdale County Building Department -- available at 437-4130.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the application. You may print and fill in the Application and mail or fax (517-437-6479) it to the City Building Permits Office.

The City of Hillsdale Planning & Zoning Administrator is Deb Sikorski. Available at 437-6455 or this address.

The Planning Commission reviews site plans of building projects, regulates land use and zoning ordinance adoption and amendment, hears cases of re-zoning request, and reviews capital projects. They meet regularly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 AM at City Hall. Site Plan Review petition forms/instructions are an available download offered below.

The sign ordinance is one of ordinances adopted by the Planning Commission. It regulates the location, size and placement of signs throughout the City. By clicking below, you can download the ordinance in PDF format. Soon, the HIllsdale City Zoning ordinance should be on line.

The Zoning Board of Appeals meet to review each case of non-conforming status extension, variance request, or temporary structure placement. Filing fee for a variance request is $150.00. .

Property Assessment Information

The Assessing portion of this department is responsible for placing annual assessed and taxable values for each real estate parcel and personal property parcel inside the City of Hillsdale.

The process of property tax assessment has changed much since 1994. Proposal A permanently changed the way assessments and taxes are calculated in Michigan. For more information please see the frequently asked questions section.

Assessment and tax information may soon be available to the general public thru this site, but currently they are offered on a subscription basis at a rate of $30.00 per month.
