It was in 1902 that Fredrick W. Stock employed an architect freom Louisville, Kentucky to design a new home for his family. The white columned mansion was enhanced by a beatiful garden and was surrounded by broad lawns- laid out by Mrs. Stock. With its charming summer house placed behind the house and walks leading to Mrs. Stock's park the extensive garden soon became a favorite show place throughout southern Michigan. The park and the mansion have long been a principal historic site for visitors.
The city now owns and maintains the park.
The house is listed on the National and State Historic Register.
